Creating Effective Email Messages Begins with the Subject Line

   Lets start with a simple fact. If more people open a message, more people will respond to the offer. In email, folks spend lots of time and effort designing subject lines that will entice recipients to open the email. In direct mail, the approach should be exactly the same.

  There are not enough mailers who put the proper emphasis into the packaging of their direct mail piece. Too often, the envelope is viewed as a necessary component to place the postage on. Many decisions are based on the expense of the envelope instead of the potential effectiveness.

  What if you could increase the number of people opening the mail piece by 10, 20 or even 25%? The corresponding increase in business would more than make up for added expense on envelopes. SO get creative. Use colors or phrases. Have the marketing team design a graphic that can be related to the offer and placed on the envelope. Let it scream, you really should open me right now! When it does, the increase in business will be easy to see.
